Best practices in corporate governance indicate that board evaluation is necessary for quality governance. A serious commitment to board evaluations demonstrates to regulators and stockholders a diligent attempt to improve governance standards and identify areas requiring structural, procedural or personal improvement. However, poorly done board evaluations can be divisive and disheartening for the board.

There is a direct correlation between boards that perform at consistently high levels and companies that produce superior results.  The best boards constantly look for ways to improve their effectiveness.
